Trade stocks from U.S. and international companies on one blockchain-powered stock trading app. Part of MERJ Exchange.
By Vanessa Malone
Upstream, part of MERJ Exchange, is a next generation trading app revolutionizing access to global markets. The platform provides investors with direct, real-time access to buy and sell traditional equities like stocks, real-world assets, and tokenized investments — all from their smartphones. We recently made some UI/UX updates that make sign-up even more streamlined.
Thanks to blockchain technology, Upstream does not permit short selling, payment for order flow (PFOF), or other market manipulation techniques. On Upstream, trade executions are real-time and transparently performed on a best bid/offer basis 20 hours a day, 7 days a week. Every trader has fair and equal access to the market data. Welcome to the future of trading.
Here’s how to open your account on Upstream.
Note: U.S. persons may not deposit, buy, or sell securities on Upstream. However, U.S. persons may create, buy, auction or bid-for Collectibles on Upstream.
- Download Upstream from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Tap Sign Up.
3. Create a Password. All you need is to create a password to start browsing opportunities. This creates your account and Signing Key for you to use on Upstream.
4. Back-up Your Signing Key. As a blockchain-powered market, you’ll receive a Signing Key when you sign up. A Signing Key is a unique cryptographic tool that acts as your personal digital signature. It’s used to authorize transactions, access your account, and verify ownership of your assets. Think of it as a highly secure key that only you can use to unlock your financial activities. To make things easy, we make this Signing Key unlockable using your biometrics. This is enacted every time you make a financial transaction including a buy, sell, bid, auction, or funds withdrawal on Upstream. For your security, Upstream doesn’t store your password for recovery so it’s critical that you export a copy of your Signing Key and password to a safe place. This way if you lose your device or forget your password, you’ll be able to recover your securities and Collectibles using your Signing Key.
5. Tap Sign In. Your public account number and password will autofill and you’ll be able to begin browsing available securities and Collectibles to buy and sell right away. You can simply fund your account using a credit/debit card, PayPal, USDC and USDT.
Happy Trading!

Collectible products are akin to a digital sticker of an underlying artwork and should not be considered a financial investment; a security token, an e-money token, or a form of digital currency. Collectibles should not, therefore, be purchased by anyone seeking financial gain or with an expectation to profit from the purchase, ownership in the entity, dividends or distributions, sale or resale of a Collectible. By buying a Collectible, you agree that you are not doing so for investment purposes or for the purposes of obtaining a security or an appreciating asset. You understand that the benefit you receive for buying a Collectible is limited to supporting athletes, celebrities and other brands. You also acknowledge that ownership of a Collectible does not carry with it any rights, express or implied, including (without limitation) copyright, trademarks or other intellectual property or proprietary rights in and to the underlying artwork. The copyright to the digital artwork remains with the copyright holder.
