Expanded hours enhance access and liquidity for global issuers and investors with blockchain-powered trading

Upstream, the global stock trading app part of MERJ Exchange, has extended its trading hours to 20 hours per day, 7 days per week (10:00 AM to 06:00 AM UTC+4). Non-U.S. investors can now use this expanded trading window to buy and sell listed U.S. and international equities in real-time directly through the Upstream trading app. This expansion, powered by blockchain technology, works to position Upstream as a global trading hub offering convenient stock trading for issuers and investors around the world.

Previously available 20 hours, 5 days a week, Upstream’s shift to 20/7 trading breaks away from the standard 8-hour schedule followed by traditional stock exchanges like Nasdaq, NYSE, CSE, and LSE, whose brokers may offer limited extended hours that often include additional fees. By contrast, Upstream offers uninterrupted access for all listed equities without any extra fees.

“Upstream enables issuers listed on any major stock exchange to dual list and reach international investors who can buy and trade their shares right from their phones,” said Brian Collins, Horizon President and Upstream Co-Creator. “Expanding our trading hours to near 24/7 trading creates unprecedented opportunity for traders across borders and time zones.”

Trade executions on Upstream are done in real-time and are transparently performed on a best bid/offer basis. Enforced by smart-contract technology, there is no short selling, no payment for order flow (PFOF), or other market manipulation techniques to promote a more transparent trading environment.

“We believe Upstream is redefining the investment landscape,” Collins continued. “This breakthrough in access gives investors around-the-clock opportunities to react to market changes in real-time, even when traditional markets are closed. This enhanced accessibility empowers our users to maximize their investment potential and stay ahead of the curve.”
